Drainage Committee
                       Drainage Committee

           Chairperson Needed

The Drainage Committee was established in 1998 by the then AG Board of Directors.
The function of this committee was to educate themselves, then community homeowners about waterflow management in Ashton Glenn. This was eventually done by the team. At multiple poolside talks (including handouts, displays and maps) the Committee addressed the owners. Topography (AG highest elevation is 37'), reporting problems, contacts, homeowners responsibilities, bulletin board notices, homeowners issues and property-care AG Covenants were addressed.

It was clarified that our water runoff goes to our lakes. Then, if any residual leaves the lake, it runs through the Hwy 17 bypass water tunnels and towards the Waccamaw River

The committee would also find appropriate action to take in case of problems arising out of stormwater effects whether from the retention ponds, lakes, swales or properties.

Committee members  themselves will continue to find out as much current information possible from  local or government agencies. A liaison has been established with the County.

The current committee, as in the past, looks forward to the continuation of all homeowners
abiding by the directions available to keep our community free from water problems.

Participation of action volunteers strengthens our Drainage Committee

It is the program of your Drainage Committee to work with, and assist you,  on matters which could effect the proper displacement of water flowing through the various routes designed to move it. We will try to answer, support or redirect you to the proper authorities if it  is beyond us. The primary responsibility, however, lies with you and your neighbors keeping these routes clear. It won’t be a big task if we do it on a regular basis. Members of the committee, from time to time, will be observing the draining swales. Sometime we will walk on your property while out doing tasks. We ask that you bear with us. If we see you, we will tell  you of our intentions; however, we will not ring door bells. We have addressed this issue with the Association and have received its support. We appreciate your cooperating with your committee.

General Information:

1.The elevation in Ashton Glenn is about 24 feet to 37 feet abovesea level, one of the highest elevations in this part of Horry County.

2.Water flows toward the lakes and then heads toward the intercoastal waterway through wetlands.

3.On your property, underground pipes or above ground swales convey water not absorbed by your land. Square, rectangular or small oval grates keep the water flowing.

4.All of our roads and drainage have been turned over to Horry County. The County will come in and help us whenever needed.

Homeowner Responsibility:

1.  The swales must be kept clean of vegetation, debris or anything that would stop water

     flow.

2.  The drainage gates, whether large or small, should be kept free of anything that would

     interfere with water flow.

3.Neighbors helping neighbors and notifying them of problems is the best solution we have of keeping our drainage water flowing properly.

Your Drainage Committee has been busy solving, or trying to solve, some of the drainage problems on Brandenberry Drive and Starbridge Drive. Not all of the problems have been solved, but we will be addressing those areas. There have been some pretty bad sinkholes that have occurred. We are working with the County to get these problems resolved. The County has told us they will come into Ashton Glenn and blow out all of our 4-inch grated drainpipes. I appreciate your patience and understanding. I will work with you anyway I can to solve problems that may arise.
